About the Artist

Painting outdoors provides an endless amount of stimulation, changing light, weather and creepy insects, but one of the most amazing perks I have discovered about outdoor painting is the amazing instructors and fellow artists I have met along the way. I paint outside for many reasons, but one of the most important of those reasons is that nature is truly the best teacher. Painting Plein Air teaches me to be aware of composition, light, values and how changing light changes color depending on the time of day, and the amount of sunlight that is available. I am an oil painter that paints mostly on masonite, or canvas panels. I work only from places I have personally experienced, whether it is on location or later from my own photographs in my studio. I am mostly attracted to a simple vista, or focus and am attempting to edit out the unnecessary things that make a painting too cluttered. The focal point of the painting is my primary focus. I love painting and have taught a few classes to aspiring artists. Painting opens up a world of observations that brighten each day with amazing, rewarding surprises and challenges.
